A Little About Us
We are a very spontaneous group based out of Knoxville, TN. There is no telling
where you might catch us playing around town. We will try to keep a list of our
upcoming shows posted, so that we are a little easier to track down.
Looking Forward to 2012
Between busking on market square, weddings, anniversaries, dance parties and dinner parties, it's been a busy year for us. We had some great trips around the southeast and are looking forward to more in the next year. We appreciate all of the fans, friends and family that have come out to support us over the years and hope you have enjoyed your time spent listening.
Happy New Year
Busking July 4th Weekend
We'll be out a couple times this weekend. Tomorrow for First Friday and then again Saturday Morning for the Farmers' Market. After being off for most of June, it feels really good to be able to get out and busk again. There is something about the simplicity of playing outside, no microphones, no stage, just on the street corner in the sun (or preferably the shade).
First busking of 2011 caught on film!
I just saw that some lovely person put up a great video of us busking on youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76rGbB44snY That was the day of the Chalk Art Walk on Market Square, our first busking day of the season! We're looking forward to a fun busking summer!! :-)
Expanding the Songbook, Looking for input
Birthdays, weddings, dogs and dancers. Boy, have we had a busy month. We played at an awesome wedding the beginning of this month on the Maryville College campus. (Fun fact: Maryville College has its own forest.) This wedding was awesome for a number of reasons, but like most things the people made it great. The guests were getting into the music with an enthusiasm that not even an overly supportive mother could muster. They were shouting out requests for songs that I know and love, but all those words are hard to keep straight.
Pre-Valentine's Dance at The Laurel Theatre Feb 9th
Notice to all guys: Build up your Brownie points. Impress your girlfriend. Take her out dancing. Get all this for less than $5!
The Knoxville Swing Dance Association is hosting a lesson and dance at the Laurel Theatre on Wednesday, Feb 9th. The lessons will get started at 7:00pm and then we'll start playing at 8:00pm. It is $2 / $1 (KSDA member). The Laurel is downtown on the corner of 16th St. and Laurel Ave.
See you there!
Christmas Time Is Here
We've been pretty busy these past couple weeks. Between school and shows I don't think any of us have slept much. My classes are finished now and I'm going to try to catch up on all of the things that I've neglected for the past month and a half. I've been whittling away at the stack of dirty dishes in my sink and I can see part of my bedroom floor again.
The end of November we played a show with Amien, our old washboard and harmonica player. It was fun to play with him again. Hopefully we'll do some more shows with him in the near future.
Volunteer Princess Dinner Cruise
We played during a dinner cruise on the Volunteer Princess last night! It was a more mellow crowd... a big change from the last few dancer gigs we've played! But it was fun, and gave us a chance to break out some songs we don't get to play as often! (This Can't Be Love, It Had To Be You...) If you missed this one, we're playing another dinner cruise in December! Stay tuned for details!
Benefit Concert for Andrew McDonald tonight
Come dance to the sounds of Christabel and the Jons, The Old City Buskers and The Streamliners for a benefit dance for Andrew MacDonald. The Bands have agreed to donate their time and talents for this dance. Michael Gill of Alive After Five and Blue Gill Productions will be the MC for the event.
All proceeds will be going to the Andrew MacDonald Cancer Fund. As you may know Andrew MacDonald has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkins. Andrew is facing numerous medical procedures and cost.
Tickets for this extravaganza are a minimum donation of $10.00
Wedding in the Mountains (bears included... sorta)
We played a wedding in the Smokeys last Saturday. It was a really cool venue, a big open air pavilion with a rustic stone fireplace at one end. It felt like we were really out in the wilderness. The was forest thick and there was a stream right next to the pavilion that you could hear anytime we stopped playing. Just before we started playing a ranger came down to tell us that some bears were spotted climbing on cars near our location. Fortunately, they never made their way to the reception.
